The Light Phone 2 is a strategic step backward in technology. In an age where people are consumed with their devices, looking downward at their phones whenever there’s a lull in conversation or waiting for a red light to change, Light Phone is taking action by a phone that forces us to reconnect with everything around us.
The previous edition of the Light Phone stripped away almost every modern feature smartphones brought us, leaving a phone that could make calls, receive calls, and store 9 numbers. Perhaps the lack of texting was a bit extreme for long-term success, but they did manage to raise over 400K on Kickstarter.
The Light Phone 2 promises a few more features like texting, a contact list, an alarm, and autoreply. They are currently toying with the idea of music storage, navigation, a ridesharing partnership, weather, voice command, calculator, and dictionary. The phone either comes in a black or white matte E-ink display with two physical buttons to scroll up and down. Light Phone 2 is equipped with 4G LTE, which seems excessive for a phone without internet access, however, 2G will be shutting down across all network in the next few years.
