A reliable jacket is the cornerstone of everyone’s wardrobe, and thanks to a new product from upstart BauBax, your favorite coat could become your most useful travel accessory.
BauBax is set to release its second line of their Travel Jackets this August after a ludicrously successful Kickstarter campaign—one that wildly exceeded a $50,000 goal by raising over $1.5 million.
BauBax got its start when its founder, Hirai Sanghavi, grew tired of constantly needing to purchase travel pillows and blankets while on frequent business trips. Together he and his wife, designer Yoganshi Shah, began to layout the plans for a jacket that would eliminate the need for excess travel accessories by combining them all into one super garment. The original BauBax jacket line began as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2015 and eventually shipped over 200,000 jackets worldwide. The original jacket line, which boasted 15 travel features, consisted of four models: Bomber, Sweatshirt, Windbreaker, and a Blazer.
The BauBax 2.0 line, estimated to ship in August, ups the travel features from the original 15 to a whopping 25. The jackets still have the reliable features of the first line, such as a built-in neck pillow-which can be inflated in seconds, built-in gloves, detachable hood, and a built-in eyemask to make sleeping during travel a breeze, and specific pockets for your phone, tablet, and sunglasses.
The new jackets feature a wealth of useful upgrades, such as an inflatable footrest that folds up and stores inside the coat, a bottle opener, a whistle for emergencies, noise reducing ear plugs, a blanket which can be stored in its own pocket, and a collapsible plastic water bottle. The jacket even has device-specific storage space, with two pockets for Apple AirPods and an Apple Pencil.
The 2.0 Jackets come in four models: the Bomber, Windbreaker, and Sweatshirt all return, but the new Vest model replaces the Blazer from the previous line. As far as features go, the Bomber model offers the most while providing the most protection from cold, wind, and water.
The Kickstarter campaign for the 2.0 jackets is still taking orders, and early donors get to take advantage of discounts off the retail price. A pledge of $149 will get a Bomber model, which is set to retail for $225. However, supplies are limited, as there are only about 600 jackets left out of the initial run of 1600.
This jacket truly is the Batman’s Utility Belt of clothing, and you won’t want to be left out in the cold when the jackets ship later this year.
