Partygoers, festival junkies, ravers, and people who want to bust a move alone in their living room, rejoice! Outline Montréal has launched a Kickstarter for their second “electro-luminescent” mask, The Sound Reactive LED Mask. Their LED Mask is audio responsive and emits a captivating, ever-changing light pattern. Since their first successful launch two years ago, Outline Montréal has teamed up with famous illustrators Patrick Seymour and BÜRO UFHO to bring eight new entrancing designs.
The LED Mask doesn’t consume that much power thanks to the phosphorus ink that it’s equipped with, an energy-efficient material that’s cold to the touch and produces a mesmerizing glow. It’s the same technology that lights up the face of a watch. The ink is paired with a lithium modulator which converts the sound waves into the programmed patterns that give the mask its hypnotic light.
Outline Montréal takes your comfort into consideration so they made sure the LED Masks were light in weight, malleable enough to fold into your pocket, and easily adjustable. Behind the printed design and phosphorus layer is a protective layer of foam, creating a gentle buffer for the mask to rest easily on your face. The LED Mask only weighs 2.8oz/80g, about half the weight of the previous mask, so you will not be weighed down by it going to your next event.
Another improvement from the previous mask is that the modulator is now located on the back of the head. The cable that connects the modulator to the mask is now located within the adjustable strap for better comfort. The previous mask had trouble acclimating to the beat when it was too source of the music was too close or loud, the sensitivity of the modulator has been tuned up so expect your mask to be in sync when your up close to a bone-rattling base.
The bottom line is these masks are totally ingenious and give you the opportunity to ‘become someone else’ for a night. Each mask is currently $27 U.S. or $35 Canadian. They’re set to ship out sometime in May 2018, just in time for summer festivals!
